Mom brain is a real thing. I was once told that a woman's brain is wired similarly to a bowl of spaghetti. We have millions of thoughts that are interwoven and we think about multiple things at once: juggling kids, meals, schedules, pick ups, cleaning, work, relationships, and care for ourselves-- basically all the things.
The best way to untangle all of those spaghetti thoughts is to brain dump. Brain dumping is a practice that allows you to write down every single thought, to do-list or item that is taking up energetic space in your brain. You grab a notebook or journal and list it all out no matter how big or how small the item is. What do you need to remember for the week? What do you need to get done? What needs to be completed? What needs to get started? What errands need to happen? Who has what event this week? List it all out!
Now this practice might seem overly simplistic but it can be a game changer when it becomes a habit and routine that you practice weekly (or daily if needed). When you do this, it frees up space in your head and no longer “loops” on repeat where you constantly think about all the things you need to do or get done and therefore lowers the overwhelm of mom brain.
To take this practice another step further, you can look at your brain dump list and date it and delegate it! Date it means to put a day that you want or need that item to be completed by. Delegating is just that- can you delegate any of these tasks to someone else? A family member? Friend? Hire it out? Sometimes we take on SO much and delegating can help with the mom brain!
In the Illuminated Mom’s Affirmation and Gratitude Journal we use the brain dump at the start of the week so that we can clear space in our brain for the week ahead and create a week infused with intentionality and alignment! You can get your own journal here or learn more about it and see how it can change your life!
